El Alto is undergoing an architectural revolution which is seeing the sea of concrete and red-brick housing being joined by some very different, very striking buildings.
Lead by architect Freddy Mamani Silvestre, the new wave of Andean architecture features extravagantly constructed buildings melding bold, brightly colored designs and traditional Aymaran elements.
Silvestre has overseen the creation of around 60 such buildings, which include features such as lavish chandeliers, and flashing lights.
